Το τμήμα τζαζ του Ωδείου Αθηνών, με μεγάλη χαρά υποδέχεται τον Gilad Atzmon, μια σημαντική διεθνή προσωπικότητα από το χώρο της τζαζ και όχι μόνο, σε ένα διαρκές workshop με τίτλο “The Primacy of the Ear”, μέσα στη χρονιά 2019-20.
Gilad AtzmonΟ πολυσχιδής Βρετανός Gilad Atzmon, γεννημένος στο Τελ Αβίβ το 1963, σπούδασε σύνθεση και τζαζ στο «Rubin Academy of Music» στην Ιερουσαλήμ και με το album του «Exile» βραβεύτηκε το 2003 από το BBC ως το τζαζ άλμπουμ της χρονιάς. Υπήρξε μέλος των Blockheads και έχει συνεργαστεί δισκογραφικά με τους Ian Dury, Robbie Williams, Sinead O’Connor, Paul McCartney, τον Robert Wyatt των θρυλικών Soft Machine, τους Water Boys, την Ofra Haza, τον Dhafer Youssef και πολλούς άλλους. To 2014 συμμετείχε στον τελευταίο δίσκο των Pink Floyd «The Endless River». Έχει ηχογραφήσει 16 προσωπικούς δίσκους και όπως αναφέρει «… η Μουσική είναι η αναζήτηση για τον εαυτό μας, η μουσική είναι η αναζήτηση από μόνη της, η μουσική είναι η ανθρωπότητα στο καλύτερό της».
Gilad Atzmon is a British Jazz artist and author. Gilad was born in Israel in 1963 and trained at the Rubin Academy of Music, Jerusalem (Composition and Jazz). A multi-instrumentalist he plays saxophones, clarinet and ethnic woodwind instruments . His albums won many awards. He was described by John Lewis at the Guardian as the “hardest-gigging man in British jazz.” Atzmon tours extensively around the world. His albums, of which he has recorded fifteenth albums to date, often explore political/social themes and the music of the Middle East. As a member of the Blockheads, Gilad has also recorded and performed with Ian Dury, Robbie Williams, Sinead O’Connor and Paul McCartney. Gilad has also recorded with Robert Wyatt, the Water Boys. In 2014 he recorded with Pink Floyd and is featured on their last album The Endless River (Anisina). In 2000 Gilad founded the Orient House Ensemble in London and started re-defining his own roots in the light of his emerging ethical awareness. Gilad see himself primarily as a Jazz artist. He is a dedicated bop artist.
«For me, music is all about the primacy of the ear. After all, we play music because we like the sound of it! In this extended workshop we will explore together different improvisational techniques that are based on intuition and the ability to listen rather than on a scholarly approach to music. We will learn how to internalise music and the music language. We will search for the road to beauty. My aim as an educator is to teach others how to educate themselves. We will learn to identify of difficulties and develop intuitive tactics to overcome these obstacles».
